Q: Can you identify this tricycle for me?
A: Your tricycle is a Steelcraft from around the mid-1930′s, made by Murray. You can view more info about Steelcraft on our manufacturers page for Murray.
Q: I have an old family photo, and I’m trying to identify the young child it pictures. The main clue is the wheeled toy the child is sitting on – some sort of ride-on toy with four wheels, short handlebars, and a sort of safety band holding the child in. If I email you the picture, do you think your experts can help me date the photo? I’m happy to let you use the picture on your site, if you want it.
A: The child in the photo is sitting in a stroller or walker made by Taylor. It’s hard to see exactly what the model looks like from the photo, and Taylor made several different types of ride-on toys and strollers similar to that one. It probably was first used as a stroller, then as the child got bigger, it could be used as a walker, as in the photo. Taylor also made a front wheel pedal assembly that you could attach instead of the two wheels shown on your photo, and convert the walker into a tricycle.
As far as the age of the photo goes, the stroller was probably made around 1940, give or take. They made very similar strollers for quite a number of years. I would guess that that photo is from around that time period as well. You might have better luck narrowing the date down even more precisely by asking an expert on photos, as many prints could be dated to a certain time period. You can view more info about the Taylor company on our Taylor manufacturers page.
Q: This lucky kid had a cool tricycle and he lived at an amusement park! Could you tell me what kind of tricycle it is?
A: He’s riding a 1940′s era Colson chain driven trike. Exact year is unknown, you’d probably need to have a color photo as well as a Colson catalog from the year that they used that color scheme to know for sure. To find more info on Colson tricycles, visit our Colson tricycle manufacturer page.
Q: What kind of adult tricycle does Henry Louis Gate Jr. ride?
A: We don’t know what brand of adult tricycle he rides. Gate says that it was handmade in Germany and suggests that it was one of a kind. If we find out, we’ll be sure to update the post. The tricycle has 24 speeds, mirrors and a bell. Gates who has the nickname “Skip,” has nicknamed his tricycle the “Soul Mobile.” Gates regularly makes an 8 mile trip on Martha’s Vinyard on a bike path were he greats everyone, especially attractive women (his words, not ours) with a ring.
Q: I recently came into possession of an old tricycle. I’m sure you get this a lot but can I send you pictures to identify it? It’s a bronze paint color with a large white “V” on the back step that says “E Z Step Off” but no other markings. It has a white Troxel seat on it. I appreciate any help on this. Thanks. john
A: You have a late 1960′s or early 1970′s Murray tricycle. The “V” on the back step is actually what’s left of the Murray logo. Troxel is the name of the manufacturer of the saddle. The saddle on this trike may or may not be original. Many of these hot rod type triycles had a smaller seat that matched the metallic color of the paint. For more info on Murray and pictures of similar tricycles, you can visit our Murray manufacturers page.

Q: Anything you can tell me about it. The brand of it and the year it was made. I would like to see a picture of what the original paint job would look like. This was painted red by my uncles somewhere along the way. I think part of it was suppose to be white. What research I could find I think the brand was Taylor but I do not know that for sure.
A: Yes, you have a Taylor tricycle, probably circa late 1930′s, but with Taylors it is pretty hard to nail down an exact date as their signature frame design on tricycles like yours was used for quite a number of years. You can visit our Taylor page for some more info and some other examples of paint scheme. It probably originally had a two-tone paint scheme like those pictured on the Taylor page, the orange and black is common as is white with a dark blue back.

A reader sent in these before and after photos of a 1950′s or early 1960′s AMF made tricycle.
This winter Bob Lassaline of Ontario restored these two c. 1930 Werlich tricycles, and by the looks of the photo, he did a great job. The tricycles were made by the Werlich Manufacturing Company Limited in Preston, Ontario Canada. The company was absorbed into Cambridge Ontario at some point in the 1950′s or 1960′s Bob believes that the plant burned down and was never rebuilt.
If you have a restoration project that you’ve completed (or one in progress) that you’d like to show off, send us some pictures and we’ll post your work.
Q: Can I send Tricyclefetish.com some pictures of my restoration project to be published in the blog?
A: Sure, we love seeing our reader’s projects. Try to take the best pictures that you can and send them to the following email address as an attachment: info(at)tricyclefetish.com. Be sure to tell us what your tricycle is, how old it is and any other info that you’d like posted about it.
Q: Can you tell me anything about this tricycle?
A: Your CCM (Canada Cycle & Motor Company) tricycle is from the 1930′s. What exact year, I couldn’t say without seeing it in that year’s catalog, which we do not have available. The seat has been replaced with what looks like a very modern bicycle saddle. You can visit our C.C.M tricycles page for a bit of company info and some photos of other CCM trikes.
Q: i need a new piece for my daughter’s kiddio trike ~ the piece that is mounted behind the seat for the push bar to attach to ~ the one on our trike has cracked and doesn’t work anymore ~ can i purchase this piece from you or do you know where i can get it?
A: Kiddi-O tricycles are made by Kettler. You can find their US website here: www.kettlerusa.com.
Q: I bought a Yerf Dog tricycle 2nd hand but the front tire has a leak. Do you know where I could get a replacement front tire (tubeless 3.50-8) for this bike? Thank you for any help you can give me!!
A: The Yerf Dog tricycles are no longer being manufactured. The cheapest thing would probably be to take the whole wheel with tire to a tire repair shop. They can find the link and probably plug the leak for a few bucks, if not, they should be able to patch it for a bit more.
Q: I bought a tricycle at a fleamarket and have no idea what it is, i see a label but no writing on it, can you help me identify this.
A: You found a very rough 1930′s era Velo King tricycle. You can find a little more info about the tricycle on our Velo King page.
Q: We just purchased a tricycle and have no information about it, my partner just resprayed it and beleives that the original colour was blue. I have attached a picture and was wondering if you could give us any information on it. We are from Queensland, Australia.
A: It may have been made by the Auto Wheel Coaster Co., as they made similar tricycles. But nailing down a maker on strap steel tricycles is very hard, because they all look very similar and they where something that could be made by small manufacturers using universal parts.
Q: Hello- I am looking for a trike for my 8 yr old Daughter. She has some disabilities, and riding a two wheel bike is difficult, almost impossible, even with training wheels. She is only 4′ 1″ (so far). Is there a trike that would work for her?
A: In order to answer that question, we’d need to know what her disabilities are. There are many tricycles that might work, depending on her condition. There are companies that specialize in adaptive tricycles. One such company is Rifton, you may want to check their website for more info. Rifton website.
Another company making tricycles for children with disabilities is TheraTrike. TheraTrike tricycles are different in that instead of pedaling like a normal cycle, TheraTrike tricycles are moved when the children use a back and forth type walking motion. This should help with coordination and balance when walking.
Q: I am trying to re-furbish my daughters’ tricycle for her daughter. I need wheel retainers and pedal retainers. could use a couple of handle grips also.
please let me know if these are avaliable.
A: You can find our grips here. We do not stock retainers, you can find them at most any hardware store.
Q: i have an old tricycle…….Keystone, made by Keystone Lantern co.,Philadelphia,Pa…..all steel ,.needs to be restored, Keystone is not listed as a manufacture……is it worth anything?
A: It will have some value, even in rough condition. If you’d like an estimated value, you can email pics and we’ll send you a value after you’ve purchased our price guide. Here’s the link the the Keystone Lantern page…not much info. Anyone with any info on the company that wants to share can email us.
Q: I have a Triumph tricycle (two wheels in the back) and wonder if it has any value? i did some research but could not find a Triumph three wheeler. I know nothing about antique tricycles and have been unable to find much concerning Triumph tricycles. I am wondering what i should do to gain more information? james
A: We only give valuations to users who’ve purchased our Online Tricycle Price Guide for a variety of reasons. Triumph is an English brand of tricycle. It was either made by Triumph or by Raleigh after that company purchased Triumph. For the most part, vintage adult tricycles are worth what someone wants to pay to have one to ride.
Q: I was wondering if you’ve had any luck on finding any info about the BlueBoys. I have some new pictures that I can send you or you can view them on my thread that I posted. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Adam R.
A: These were made in the first quarter of the 20th century. I do not know the maker, and without markings it is hard to tell. Many different makers made tricycles and ride-ons like this including Taylor, Auto Wheel Coaster, Columbia, etc. About the only hope of accurately identifying them would be to find an ad (or someone with one) that listed a manufacturer, but even then, many tricycles were sold unbranded in stores.
